EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) was developed and researched by Dr. Francine Shapiro for its capacity to tap into the brain’s natural ability to heal itself from adverse life experiences. EMDR uses eye movements or bilateral stimulation to reduce the overwhelming vividness of the way trauma replays in our minds and bodies. Eye movements help our brains work towards a healed way to resolve the conflicts that we still carry with us.
